While traveling in Greece, I was lucky that my friend’s hometown of Trikala happened to be right next to the historical monastic complex known as Meteora. Meteora means meteor, and as you can see, the impressive protruding cliffs look like something out of this world.
The cliffs extend up and around a mountain. My friend and I drove up, but if you don’t have a car, there are tour buses taking visitors up, and the brave hikers taking day trips. There are still functioning monasteries scattered throughout the area open to tourists, but for me, viewing the cliffs by day and on a clear night was enough of a spiritual experience for me.
Have you traveled to Meteora? Did you visit any of the monasteries?
