To put it simply, vegans are welcome in Berlin. When I got to Berlin, I was overwhelmed with food choices. There is vegan food all over Berlin, in every shop, restaurant, and bakery. Well not all of them, but more than any other city I have been to in the recent past.
As someone often with limited food choices outside my kitchen, it was difficult for me to pick just one thing to eat, so I ended up eating everything I could get my hands on in Berlin.
When I first arrived in Berlin, I reunited with some girls from the Sivananda ashram in India, and we went to W-Der Imbiss to feast on Indian thalis. I loved the variety here, and the food was excellent.
You can find falafel in Berlin around every corner, but I tried out Dada Falafel on the recommendation of a friend. The falafel were fluffy yet crunchy on the outside, and the sauces were full of flavor. Compared to the falafel from the doner stands, Dada Falafel was spectacular!
So after touring around the city a bit, I went to Berlin’s annual yoga festival, and I participated in a lot of eating, and yes, some yoga.
At the Yoga Festival, I tried food from Satyam Ayurvedic Restaurant, and Goodies coffee and pastry shop. (For more details on this food check out my Berlin Yoga Festival Post).
When I lived in Berlin several years ago, my friend and I used to go this burrito place, Dolores. So for old time’s sake, I went to Dolores.
Since my last visit, they completely upgraded their menu to include many vegan friendly choices – in fact, my meal was named “vegan friend.”
The burrito was full of spice and flavor. It was actually too delicious – I ended up eating way too quickly, and had to check out the partial view of the TV tower from their Alexanderplatz location for awhile before moving on.
Other than that, I ate fruits, vegetables, and other delicacies purchased from local bio markets at home. I love Berlin for it’s alternative vibe, incredible music scene, and open minded citizenry, but now I will add delicious vegan food to that list. Can Berlin be any more perfect?
What is your favorite vegan meal in Berlin? Did you know Berlin was so vegan friendly?
