I was wandering around Washington, D.C. a few weeks ago with some friends, and on the way from Columbia Heights to Adam’s Morgan, we stumbled on some green space, Meridian Hill Park. I had never been to this part of town, and was pleasantly surprised to find this mini urban oasis. Though it is a small park, there is enough room for some leisurely outdoor activities and the tiered fountain running through the park serves as a unique, eye pleasing, center piece. This park is lovely for taking photos; even lovely enough for the wedding photos we interrupted as we stumbled upon a wedding party towards the top of the fountain.
Towards the top of the park, there is a space large enough for kids to run and play. On either side of this area are shady sitting areas lined with trees. One group was having a party complete with streamers. Several families were picnicking, and there were a few people relaxing enjoying a good read.
After walking down a flight of stairs you will hit the tiered fountain, with a duck pond at the bottom. Overall, Meridian Hill Park is a pretty place to sit and take a break while walking through Washington, D.C. I am glad I found this little park, and will visit it again next time I am in the area.
